This painting was done for the “Unity in Diversity” exhibition in Rotorua, organised by Trish de Muth, which celebrated 200 years of the Baha’i faith. The paining illustrates the quote “It is better to guide one soul than to possess all that is on earth…”.
Dave again
A new pastel drawing, study for a painting to come…
Another painting
After watching rowers on Lake Rotorua in the early morning, another painting on aluminium.
Quick painting
Trying out a new support, I have done a quick oil sketch on aluminium prepared with gesso. I really enjoyed working on the surface, so will definitely continue with this.
Another round one
Here is another small still-life in oils.
Finally… another painting
It’s been way too long since I last posted, but mainly because what with one thing and another I haven’t had much to add. But here is another portrait I have done of Edda, who is a marvellous sitter. Revisiting a previous version of it I was not happy with, I went to photos I had taken and drawings I had done and started again.
Adam Portrait Award
I was really happy to get into the final of the 2018 Adam Portrait Award, with this painting of Faustinah Ndlovu, a friend in Rotorua. Originally from Zimbabwe, she is very active in the local community, and models sometimes for local artists. The exhibition is on in Wellington for several months and then tours several centres.
Year of the Dog
It’s been way too long since I last posted. The whole of summer has gone by, and not only is it a new year but a new Chinese Year. To celebrate the year of the dog, Rotorua’s Helium Gallery is holding a dog-themed exhibition, with a portion of proceeds going to the SPCA. This is my contribution.
Two more round paintings
Here are my last two paintings for the small works exhibition – not great photos. I can only show three, so will have to decide which one to leave out.
Another small painting
Have just finished, I think, my second piece for the small works (less than 200 x 200mm) exhibition – maybe it needs another glaze. Anyway I’m already working on another two, so all is going to schedule with these. I wish my other projects were as up-to-date!
